Sembawang MSCP
TEIKA GARDEN
The chosen site for this project is a Multi Storey Carpark that is located in a neighborhood in Sembawang and is surrounded with HDB buildings. The client requested for 50% of the Carpark to be redesigned to encourage more residents from the neighborhood to visit common spaces and fostering a sense of community. Therefore, I designed a calming yet vibrant space in the 3rd to 5th level of the carpark to attract residences to visit the space to relieve their stress and hang out with their family, friends and loved ones.
Design Statement
To design a communal space that fosters ties among the community with activities that will also benefit their mental health. The design is targeted to all age groups as they all face stress. Therefore, the design aims to be a stress-relieving, calming yet vibrant space for the community to visit
Design Concept
The design is inspired by Japanese Gardens, and its features are applied to the design. For example the waterfalls influences the size of the voids in each level, the sizes of the islands inspire the manipulation of the sizes of circles throughout the design and the spaces in between symbolizes water movement in the lakes, hence influencing the circulation.
Programmes
The programs include an indoor garden in the 3rd level, a communal space & gathering area in the 4th level, BBQ pits and an outdoor garden in the 5th level and indoor fitness rooms located on each level.
